That the Parliament expresses its concern at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) vote on 6 October 2022, which, it believes, avoids a debate on evidence of human rights abuses against the Uyghur Muslim population in China’s Xinjiang Autonomous Region; believes that the evidence was recently detailed in a report of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights; agrees with the assessment of Amnesty International that the UNHRC vote “puts the UN’s main human rights body in the farcical position of ignoring the findings of the UN’s own human rights office”; expresses its hope that the UNHRC will discuss what it sees as the abuses of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang Province with due urgency; considers that this is one of the pressing human rights concerns in the world today, and reiterates its unshakeable commitment to universal human rights and freedom of religious belief and worship around the world.
